Chelsea to Sheffield to Leyton

Just when we thought the O's had yet again miserably failed to sign anyone with match winning potential in the transfer window, the club announce that they have signed Chelsea midfielder Jimmy Smith, 22, on loan until the end of the season.

Smith has previously been out on loan to QPR and Norwich and has just returned from a loan spell at Hillsborough where he may just as well have been playing the part of mascot Ossie the Owl as he only made 6 first team appearances from the start of the season. Smith made a total of 52 appearances in the Championship for the three clubs. He was top scorer for Chelsea Reserves in 2005/06 and made his Premier League debut the same season at Newcastle.

He is available for next Saturday's game against Tranmere and will wear the number 27 shirt.
