33 year old Smith who was at Orient for six seasons, five as skipper, is also registering as a player although he expects to play, "Only if Martin Ling has a crisis on his hands."
Smith will be welcomed back by Orient fans not only for his loyalty to the club but also because in the short term, crisis is what Ling has on his hands with injuries and upcoming suspensions to the majority of his first choice players. Smith has been a regular in the Vale side this season.
Smith stated, "Orient have a great tradition of developing their own talent and with the youngsters doing really well this season I hope I can develop some of the stars of the future now."
