Jimmy Smith's 20th-minute goal was enough for Orient to overcome a subdued Canaries side and leave Slade delighted.
"I thought the lads showed terrific spirit," said Slade.
"We got the goal quite early and that gave us something to hang on to.
"In the end I don't think that there was any doubt that we deserved to win the game.
"I thought we defended superbly - without the ball it was certainly our best performance of the season.
"Everyone did their job well, not just the defenders. We created one or two other chances, there were some great midfield blocks and in the end our goalkeeper Jamie Jones has only had to make a couple of saves."
