Martin Ling identified Keith as a perfect replacement for Andy Scott, stating, "I've got Joe down as our left sided winger for next season and I'm glad he's chosen to sign for us."

The fixture is a repeat of last years opening game which proved to be a disastrous defeat for the O's who failed to cope with the lumbering skills of ten foot tall Jon Parkin.
