Leyton Orient had little trouble ending their ten year wait to get to the area quarter-final of the LDV trophy against a typically feeble Cambridge side who slid to yet another home defeat.

Cambridge had chances in the first half before the Londonders really got into their stride but only could only show why they have managed just five goals in their last ten games. Jermaine Easter was twice put into good scoring positions in the 14th and 35th minutes but failed even to hit the target.

His first shot after an excellent threw ball by Justin Walker hit the side netting and the second attempt was a dreadful bouncing effort which flew well wide.

Orient showed how it should be done when they stepped up their game after the break, Jabo Ibehre firing them in front in the 50th minute and Wayne Carlisle putting the result beyond doubt as early as the 73rd minute.

Ibehre was put through by an excellent lay off from Andy Scott, and Carlisle was quick to turn a mistake into an opportunity when he ran onto a sliced shot from Stuart Wardley.

There was one moment when Cambridge might have made a difference but when Shane Tudor raced through the middle in the 63rd minute he could only add to the long list of dreadful finishes, driving a shot a yard wide of the left hand post.
