Cortez Belle's late strike earned Chester a deserved share of the spoils in a 1-1 home draw against high-flying Leyton Orient.

The striker powered home a header from Andy Harris corner seven minutes from time after Chester had laid siege to the visitors' goal for much of the second half.

Both sides had really struggled to impose themselves in a tight opening quarter which failed to produce a single shot on goal.

After 20 minutes Ben Davies made good progress down the right flank and his cross looked destined for Daryl Clare until Justin Miller produced a vital interception to prevent the Chester striker scoring an almost certain goal.

On the half-hour mark Davies was unlucky as his right-footed drive from inside the box was acrobatically tipped on to the bar by Lee Harrison.

The visitors broke the deadlock seven minutes from the interval with their first effort on target as Miller outwitted Paul Carden and crossed to Lee Steele who deftly nodded the ball home for his 12th goal of the season.

Chester spurned a good chance on 52 minutes when a run by Belle set up Kevin Ellison but the left-sided midfielder completely his kick with the goal at his mercy.

Ellison almost made amends four minutes later but his drive was touched aside for a corner by the impressive Harrison. The resultant corner kick found Ellison and he hit an overhead kick which came back off the bar and then Phil Bolland's follow up was touched over by the keeper.

Orient seemed content to soak up the pressure and hit Chester on the break, while on 67 minutes Chester reverted to a three-man forward line with Kevin Rapley in place of Stewart Drummond.

Ellison shot over an effort from Clare was saved, while at the other end Wayne Carlisle headed wide when presented with a good opportunity.

When it looked as though the visitors would hold out up popped Belle with the equalizer, and there was even time for Harrison to deny Rapley with a fine save at the death.
