An equaliser from Doncaster Rovers striker Mark McCammon kept his side's hopes of automatic promotion alive.

He fired home to earn a precious draw as Rovers closed the gap on second-place Carlisle to just two points.

But it was heartbreak for the O's, who had taken the lead through Wayne Gray and looked set to end a dismal run.

After five straight defeats, Orient manager Martin Ling switched to a 4-3-3 formation and made five changes to the side beaten 2-0 at Oldham.

But it was Doncaster who had the first real openings as first James Coppinger shot across goal and then McCammon headed wide in the first 12 minutes.

But gradually Orient started to take a grip and on 14 minutes Neil Sullivan in the visiting goal had to dive full-length to keep out a long-range drive from Charlie Daniels.

Doncaster's first effort on target came on 29 minutes but Coppinger shot straight at Orient keeper Glenn Morris.

The home side stepped up the pressure and Jabo Ibehre headed wide before Gray broke the deadlock on 45 minutes when he beat Stephen Roberts to a Jason Demetriou cross and headed into the corner of the net from six yards.

After the interval, Orient continued to press but it was Rovers who levelled on the hour when McCammon, who was lurking at the far post, fired home from close range following an excellent cross from defender Gareth Roberts.

Shortly afterwards the visitors could have won the game as Matt Mills fired against a post and O's keeper Morris made a spectacular double save from the follow-up as McCammon and Richie Wellens fired in efforts.

After that both sides went for the win but it was Orient who almost snatched it as Ibehre headed wide and then the home side's top scorer, Adam Boyd, almost netted with his first touch but just failed to convert Ibehre's fierce cross.
