Bristol Rovers saw their unbeaten record smashed as Leyton Orient twice came from behind to win this thriller.

Rovers, who had not conceded an away goal all season, led 2-1 with strikes from Jamie Forrester and Paul Trollope going into the last 30 minutes.

But Orient struck three times in a deadly eight-minute spell to move into the top three as two-goal Gary Alexander and Lee Steele added to Michael Simpson's first-half goal.

In a pulsating match former Orient striker Lee Thorpe had enough chances to have sunk his old club without trace.

First Orient keeper Lee Harrison was forced to push Thorpe's shot away and then the lively hitman set up Forrester who sent an effort against the bar.

Thorpe went close again before Orient's Wayne Carlisle forced Kevin Miller into action at the other end.

But the visitors grabbed the lead when Miller's huge clearance found Forrester who raced through the Orient rearguard to score.

The lead lasted just six minutes - that's how long it took Steele to dazzle the visiting defence with a penetrating run down the left and Simpson headed home his pinpoint cross.

Thorpe had chances either side of the half time - sending a close range header against the Orient bar on 48 minutes before Rovers regained the lead shortly afterwards.

Stuart Campbell's corner fell to Trollope who fired the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

Thorpe could have killed Orient off before the home side came storming back.

David Hunt forced Miller into a great save before Steele levelled when he turned in Andrew Scott's left-wing cross.

That signalled the start of the three-goal burst as Orient skipper Alexander put the home side ahead for the first time when he tapped home at the far post following Carlisle's run and shot.

Then Alexander headed home Carlisle's cross to complete the perfect comeback.
