Notts County were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient which means they have failed to win at Meadow Lane for seven successive games.

Magpies' fans are also waiting for their side to achieve a win against one of the leading clubs in the promotion stakes. This was the 12th time this season Notts have played a side in the top seven and they have yet to beat any of them.

Matters looked ominous for the Magpies when former Mansfield man Wayne Corden, back in the county, shot past his former Stags colleague Kevin Pilkington to give the visitors the lead minutes into the second half.

The goal was badly needed following a tedious first 45 minutes.

But the pace picked up noticeably after Corden's strike and Notts should have levelled when David Pipe, easily their best player, raced onto a Lee Crooks pass and crossed perfectly only for Dan Chillingworth to head over the bar.

Notts, however, drew level with 15 minutes remaining. Chris Palmer, just off the substitutes' bench, floated a corner to the back post where the lively Steve Scoffham nodded it back across and Mike Edwards finished it off from close range.

It was the big defender's sixth goal of the season as the front pairing again struggled to find any finishing.

After the equaliser it was anybody's match and Pilkington had to make two smart saves to deny Orient who were hungry for all three points.

Orient were distinctly fortunate not to go down to ten men when John Mackie, their captain and central defender, having already been booked escaped censure from referee Gary Sutton for what looked like a clear second bookable offence.
