York City ended their campaign at Bootham Crescent with another defeat going down 2-1 against Leyton Orient.

However, that did not dampen the City crowd who gave Chris Brass and his players a standing ovation when he brought his side into the directors box after the final whistle.

City boss Brass praised the home supporters and promised that the next time they would be celebrating as they were on the pitch below him, would be as part of the team's success.

Brass, who released eight players early in the week, named a young side with teenagers Graeme Law, Bryan Stewart and Adam Arthur all given their full debuts and there were four more teenagers on the bench.

City's player of the season Darren Dunning quickly showed his worth he was instrumental in City's early goal on five minutes.

First he fired in a thunderous 25 yard free-kick which keeper Glen Morris tipped over. From the resulting corner Dunning found Stuart Wise who headed home from eight yards.

Orient equalised on 28 minutes. Matt Lockwood's free-kick into a crowded area found Mark Peters whose volleyed effort was tipped on to the bar and over for a corner by Chris Porter.

Lockwood took the corner and ark Peters rose unchallenged to head home at the far post.

Disaster struck for City in first-half stoppage time when keeper Porter came well off his line, but failed to take a Lockwood cross and Gary Alexander nipped between the keeper and defender Dave Merris to head home from 15 yards.

City's main chances after the break came from Dunning's free-kicks with Wise having headers saved on two occasions.

Teenage midfielder Kane Ashcroft got his taste of league football late on and almost scored, latching on to Stewart's low cross, but keeper Morris made a fine reaction save.

O's sub Jabo Ibehre made quite an impact when he came on. He was yellow-carded within a minute following a tussle with Wise.

Then the striker saw his 12-yard angled volley beat keeper Porter, but come back into play off the underside of the crossbar.
